The Disciples Peter and John Running to the Sepulchre on the Morning of the Resurrection (oil on canvas (82 × 134 cm) — 1898) is Eugene Burnand's best-known work. Burnand was a prolific painter and illustrator from Moudon, Switzerland. The masterpiece hangs in the Musée d'Orsay in Paris. The French state acquired it when it was shown at the Salon de la Société Nationale des beaux-arts in 1898.
Look deeply for a moment at the painting. The sun is rising with a burst of color on a quiet Easter morning. John and Peter run frantically to the tomb. John, in white, clasps his hands and is seemingly worried while Peter's facial expression is one of fear and shame. I would imagine they are also filled with anticipation and joy.
Can you imagine what they were thinking and remembering? Imagine you are there, running with them. What are you thinking, feeling?

See, what a morning, gloriously bright,
With the dawning of hope in Jerusalem;
Folded the grave-clothes, tomb filled with light,

See God's salvation plan,
Wrought in love, borne in pain, paid in sacrifice,
Fulfilled in Christ, the Man,
For He lives: Christ is risen from the dead!
