Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 – 1827) is one of the greatest, if not the single greatest, composers of classical music of all time. A master composer and musician, later in life, Beethoven became deaf, unable to perform publicly. However, his most extraordinary music came about during this period. Beethoven was instrumental in the transition of classical music to romantic music.
A genius in his own right, Beethoven saw music as a medium that people could experience anywhere. He was a man of great faith that inspired his music.
Beethoven said,
“My chief aim was to awaken and permanently instill religious feelings not only into the singers but also into the listeners.”
